BOOK REVIEW: Control By Charlotte Stein

“You want it, you slutty little bookworm.”

Control

When Madison Morris decides to hire an assistant to help run her naughty bookshop, she gets a lot more than she bargained for. Aggressive Andy doesn't quite make the grade, but continues to push her buttons in other areas, while uptight and utterly repressed Gabriel can't quite take Madison's training techniques. One makes her grasp control, while the other makes her lose it. But the lines are blurring and she's no longer sure who's leading and who's following. In the midst of kinky threesomes and power plays, can Madison work out what she really wants? - goodreads

This book was a surprise. A very good surprise. As many other bloggers have commented on, its hard to review an erotic novel. Your putting yourself out there being like "well fuck me this made me horny' or "WTF? people actually find this smut sexy?" and well its hard. I'm not really sure where I'm going with that, just that...yah. No judgement.

Control is one of those books. There were some definite scenes that made my heart go a twitter, but there were also some parts where it was like the Saharan desert up in here.

The book starts with the smut right away. Madison needs to hire an assistant for her naughty bookstore and what better way to end the interview by screwing the applicant? Anyways, he didn't end up getting the job and the assistant position goes to Gabriel. A nerdy 30 year old virgin. Well based on that you know exactly what is going to happen.

Little innocent Gabriel may be physically virginal, but he is very well-read (and aparently well-hung) in the erotica literature and very competent in the masturbation side of things.  This bugged me. I get it, people need to have some solo play time...but come on, have sex already if you are that sexually charged that you have wack off 6 times a day... or maybe don't get a job at a sexy book store... my thoughts... not yours.

Anyways, Gabriel is pretty submissive, which control laden Madison is all over. She wants to teach him how to please her and to please himself ultimately. She teaches him how to push his limits, how to listen to the body's needs and wants.  Madison isn't all that nice about it though, definitely throwing some humiliation into it. Which could be seen with the reemergence of Andy (the guy she banged in the interview). Through the threesomes, dominance and other sexually expletive acts Madison starts falling for Gabriel, and a more romantic edge comes out in the books.  At first I didn't like him. Too much of a wimp, pushover but he did grow on me by the end of the novel.

Sure the writing is bit choppy and there were some areas that just seemed to drag on, I do recommend this book if you want a good smutty read. It's a semi-quick read and can get ya in the mood if that's your thing.  There is also a good romance side to Control. It's not all sex and dominance.

  1. I don't read erotica very often but I do like to indulge once in a while. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one! Sounds like a pretty good read despite the choppy writing and such. Great review, Kendra!
